teamADVENTURE Bike Fitting
Tuesday May 20th – With a great
turnout of volunteers, kids & staff, last night at Project Adventure Kids
was a big success and great fun.
Thanks to C4 (Covington-Conyers
Cycling Club) & Conte's 14 kids and 6 staff
members were fitted to their new bikes & helmets. Checking seat posts,
brakes, helmets, quick releases and providing a little guidance on shifting and
how to set the bikes down gently and on the correct side, the team was an
invaluable resource. It is so important for these kids to see that people
care about them.
Once the kids were fitted, they buzzed around in
circles across the large parking lot with smiles and laughter in
abundance. On top of new bikes & helmets, the North Atlanta Riding
Club (NARC) donated several years of left over, but brand new, team kits
(uniforms). Once they got over the initial giggles of wearing spandex, the
kids loved the outfits. Feeling like part of a team & having the help
of adults in the community makes this a really special activity for the
kids.
teamAdventure will make their debut appearance at the
Downtown Covington Bike Parade / BRAG kick-off event on Saturday, June
7th. The kids' cycling coach sponsor (Robert Wilhite of mycyclecoach.com) will be working with
the kids earlier that day at the Project Adventure campus before heading into
Covington. As safety is our biggest priority, we welcome
cyclists-volunteers to help out. Please email Lisa (lisa@covingtoncentury.org
) if you'd like to ride with us that
Saturday afternoon (before the parade) or any other Saturday in June & July.
About Project Adventure Kids:
Since 1981 Project
Adventure Kids has helped Georgia’s homeless, abused, neglected and at-risk
youth overcome the barriers they face in life. Today the program supports
over 100+ kids daily, many of whom live & learn on the 130 acre campus in
Covington and Milledgeville. The Project Adventure Kids program is successful –
last year 10 kids graduated high school, 22 received their GED and today nine
kids are in college, many of whom are scholarship recipients. Some
of the money raised from the Covington Century this year will help pay for SAT
and ACT entrance exams. Project Adventure Kids is a sister organization to
Project Adventure, Inc., a 501(c)3 charity. All donations are
tax-deductible. For more information about Project Adventure Kids, please visit
